Hydro Plant Tour – 2018 October 15

Horseshoe Hydro Facility Tour

Description: Learn about the history of electricity in the Calgary area in an operating museum.  Commissioned in 1911, the Horseshoe facility was built to service the booming city of Calgary – population had increased from 4,000 to 40,000 residents in the decade preceding the construction.  After more than 100 years of operation, the four original generators are still providing power to the Alberta grid. Location of the Horseshoe hydro facility is in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and the short drive from Calgary is scenic and enjoyable.
